Partner days 2024 at ICES - A bridge between cultures and international collaborations
On Friday, September 13 and Saturday, September 14, 2024, the Catholic University of Vendée (ICES) was pleased to welcome representatives of its partner universities from around the world to its La Roche-sur-Yon campus for the “Journées Partenaires”. The event, designed to strengthen ICES' international ties, gave guests a behind-the-scenes look at a French university and a chance to immerse themselves in the local culture, while enjoying convivial moments and enriching exchanges.
Discovering a university and a historic city
The event kicked off on Friday morning with a guided tour of the ICES campus, where representatives of the partner universities were able to familiarize themselves with the architecture and organization of a French institution of higher education. They were introduced to the university's various teaching areas, teaching resources and development projects, while exchanging views with members of the academic staff and students.
After this introduction to ICES, the delegation had the opportunity to discover La Roche-sur-Yon, a city rich in history founded by Napoleon in 1804. A guided tour of the city allowed them to explore its emblematic landmarks, such as the Napoléon square and its famous mechanical animals, which bring the city center to life on a daily basis.
Cultural immersion on the Atlantic coast
On Saturday, it was time to relax and get away from it all, with an excursion to the Atlantic coast near Les Sables-d'Olonne. Representatives of the partner universities were able to savor the wild beauty of the Vendée countryside, while taking advantage of special moments to strengthen the ties forged the day before. This cultural immersion enabled guests to better understand the living environment of international students who come to study at ICES, while discovering the region's rich natural and maritime heritage.
Strengthening international cooperation
In addition to visits and cultural discoveries, the Partner Days were an opportunity to consolidate relations between ICES and its international partners. These exchanges were key moments for considering new opportunities for joint development, and for facilitating the creation of networks between the various institutions present.
The two days were spent in a relaxed, convivial atmosphere, with shared meals offering a delicious taste of French gastronomy. All participants were delighted with the warm welcome and meticulous organization provided by the ICES team.
Towards promising new partnerships
In short, the Partner Days 2024 not only provided a behind-the-scenes look at a French university and showcased the richness of the local heritage, but also reinforced ICES' position as a key player in the development of international university exchanges.
